We Define Who We Are

We are people, places, and all of the things. We are the faces above the well. We are Faculty, Staff, Students, Researchers, Professors, Administrators, Educators, Decision makers, Mentors, and Authors. We are partners and collaborators. We are friends and not foes. We are Trailblazers, and Pioneers. The first to ever do it , Aunties, Uncles, Surrogate parents, Your cousin's favorite Cousins. We are kinfolk. We are community action. Change agents, Advocates, Disruptors, Agitators if you will, Allies, And Truthtellers, Seekers of knowledge, and Thought leaders. We're on the front lines and behind the scenes. We're the flava that Carolina needs. We're evidence that you don't have to conform to succeed. We are Black out loud. We're Black and we're proud. We are Martin's Dream and Horton's Hope. We are the answers Mother McClinton's prayers and Professor Daye's legacy personified. We are raised fists and praying hands. We are swag and surf. We are the culture. We are Carolina Black. We are Carolina Blue. We peep the distractions and affirm with action. We are Bold, Resilient, Magical and Visionary. We are Diversity, Equity and inclusion. We are good trouble. We are not your stereotypes or expectations. We are the song full of the hope that the present has brought us. We are unapologetically the Carolina Black Caucus

The leadership team is committed to furthering the mission of the CBC and the sustenance of this important organization at UNC. We are dedicated to uplifting the voices of the voiceless and advocating for the most vulnerable among us. The leadership team is working every day to uplift concerns of the Black community and hold the University accountable. In an effort to take action and ignite change, the CBC hosts convening, forums, and panel discussions to provide a platform for the issues most important in our community. The CBC also engages people where they are by hosting social events and professional development opportunities within the local community to help foster a stronger sense of belonging. Whether on or off campus, the CBC leadership prioritizes outreach to the Black community by:
-
Engaging communities in constructive dialogue;
-
Uplifting and sharing the stories of our Black faculty, staff, and students;
-
Celebrating the accomplishments of Carolina’s Black community; and
-
Mobilizing the next generation of Black leaders.
