UNC Board of Governors
Mr. Randall C. Ramsey, Chair
Dear Chairman Ramsey and Members of the Board of Governors:
I write to you today in support of the request submitted by Dr. Chapman, Chair of the Faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), to give our Chancellor the authority to make decisions on behalf of our campus pertaining to COVID-19’s impact on our community. News of three clusters in campus residences and fraternity houses has increased anxiety in an already fearful time on campus. As Chair of the Carolina Black Caucus, I must point out the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on members of the community that I represent. We cannot wait for this virus to claim the lives of UNC-CH workers and students before we take serious action. Our campus leaders need the authority to make the decisions that are best for our needs. We implore you to empower our leaders to do what is necessary to keep us safe.
Sincerely,
Dawna Jones, MSW, M.Ed
